Mix one teaspoon of manganese sulfate per gallon of water, and spray the leaves once a month for three months. Sago palms make nice accents in the garden, but all parts of this plant are highly toxic to people and animals. Use a thick layer of pine needles or alfalfa hay, or use a quality native mulch made from small tree branches and leaves. There are small white bugs damaging the leaves on my lemon tree. Apply horticultural oil; make sure you hit the leaf undersides. Or mix 2 tablespoons canola oil and 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap in a gallon of water. If the spray does not harm foliage, repeat applications as necessary, including leaf undersides. Stink bugs also cause cat-facing, a distortion that happens after the insects insert their strawlike mouth parts into the tomato to drink. The fabric allows air, light and water to penetrate but keeps pests out. Add trap plants such as sunflowers to the garden to lure the insects away from your crop. Stick the wand within 3 or 4 inches of the insects before turning on the vacuum on and then quickly thrust it forward. The adult insect lays eggs, and the larvae tunnel through the foliage, leaving silvery trails as they feed.
